Mang Mang Sik means “Have a Good Meal” in Hakka. My late father spoke bad hakka and his daughter speaks bad Hokkien ! LOL
My children have Chinese ancestry but we barely explore that side of our tradition. Usually, I cook a lot of western or Malay dishes on my weekly show. But I decided to revisit my love for Chinese cuisine with my guest presenter, Vickey Chen who claims she is 60% Chinese, 40% international. LOL
On the show, Vickey shares her Red Date Pumpkin Seed Milk (Tasty Asia) and Walnut Sesame Dessert (Cookidoo). And I attempted for the first time, the 3 in 1 cooking - Ginger Chicken, Cabbage Stew and “Drunken” Prawns. So so heavenly!
We have two contests running. Head over to D'varomas TM6 Instagram page to see how to win yourself a Thermomix Thermojug (for DVAs only ) or a Norwex Envirocloth!
Good luck and thank you for watching!

11 years ago, I married Azmi Abdul Rahman and my diet just changed from soups and steam dishes, to Curries and Sambals! Nasib baik ada Serbuk Adabi Consumer … kalau tak? Tak berasap lah dapur!
I made Gulai Kepala Ikan Salmon a few days ago using their “New Serbuk Gulai Ikan” (what a unique colour btw - quite a departure from your usual look!)
And just before you think this is my own recipe … I cheated. It’s actually the recipe that’s recommended on their packet! LOL. Here’s what you need:
6 tablespoons of Cooking Oil
Ingredients A:
1 Big Onion
2 pieces of Garlic
1 inch of Ginger
1 teaspoon of Mixed Herbs or Mixed Fenugreek
1 stalk Curry Leaves
1 Tomato (cut to 4)
Ingredients B:
1 packet of Serbuk Gulai Ikan (24gm) or *2 packs if you want it spicier
5 shallots (grind)
1/2 inch Ginger (grind)
2 pieces of Garlic (grind)
Ingredients C:
600gm fish of your choice
600ml water
2 1/2 teaspoon of Tamarind
2 okra
3 red chilis
1 tablespoon of Salt
Instructions:
1.Heat Oil in Pan
2. Saute ingredients A until fragrant
3. Add in the Gulai Ikan paste with ingredients B. Saute for 3-4 minutes until oil separates, using low heat
4. Add ingredients C. Leave it for 8-9 minutes over medium heat until boiling (I added the salmon last)
5. Add salt. You can add coconut milk if you wish, but I didn’t.
6. Serve piping hot with fluffy rice/ breads of choice
p/s: The difference between their curry powder and their Gulai ikan is in colour and it’s spicier - most Malay curries would use their legendary Serbuk Ikan Kari.
If you make this dish, do remember to tag me if you’re posting it up k? Would love to hear from you!

Keli Goreng Kicap 😋 Fried Catfish with Black Sweet Sauce & Ginger. Not sure if this is Chinese or Malay dish 🤣 because for people who stay in the northern state (Kedah) like me cooks fusion dishes inspired by Chinese, Peranakan, Malay and Thai.. That’s why my dishes don’t look like the typical Chinese food served at home 😅 What about you?

Singaporean cuisine is multi-faceted because of cultural influences. While a majority of Singaporeans are Chinese, we also have Malay, Indian and Eurasian ethnic groups. We've been taught since young to embrace racial diversity and maintain social harmony. This is not only evident in our language - Singlish, which is a variety of English spoken in Singapore, incorporating elements of Chinese and Malay, but also the food that we eat. Spicy food is rather common in Singapore so when Sichuan cuisine is brought over to our shore, they immediately became a hit. Almost all the coffeeshops or foodcourts in Singapore these days have at least one stall selling Sichuan food. Sichuan (Szechuan or sometimes spelt as Schezwan) food has a unique bold and lip-numbing spiciness in most of their dishes because of the liberal use of garlic, Sichuan peppercorns and other spices. One of their most popular dishes is this Spicy Fish Hot Pot or Chong Qing Grilled Fish. The soup base of this dish is good to go with rice and noodles. You can also add any side ingredients, such as beancurd skin, tofu, mushrooms, prawns, instant ramen noodles, etc to this dish. If you have a party coming up, you can consider serving this over a portable stove and have the side ingredients placed on the side so that your guests can cook while they eat. It's a really nice experience. Just prepare extra stock because we can guarantee you that a top-up is required. If you've never tried this yummy dish before, do give it a go.

Fancy a delicious Indonesian feast at home? Try making this ayam bakar recipe. Ayam bakar also means roasted chicken in Bahasa Indonesia and Malay, is an Indonesian and Malaysian dish that taste sweet and savoury. This dish seems difficult to prepare but it's in fact really easy to recreate. Instead of your usual chicken dishes, impress your family and friends with this seemingly difficult dish. We have cooked this recipe a few times and our friends really enjoyed it. Hope you will enjoy this too. Have fun!

Rendang Chicken from Malaysia ??
While unable to travel even around my own home country ~ Malaysia, I actually craved for Rendang Chicken during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, unsure my craving reason ?? Though I'm not a spicy foodie, however I love foods with spices& thick gravy. Lol...Ha...Ha...?❤
Rendang chicken is a spicy & spices stewed dish originated from Minangkabau, Indonesia. Specifically, this is a speciality of Batusangkar & Bukittinggi, Indonesia. Rendang not just to cook with chicken, it can be with beef (Rendang Beef), lamb (Rendang Lamb) etc. Read more via ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rendang
In Malaysia ??, rendang dishes are traditionally served among the Malay community. So, whenever you're travelling across the different states around Malaysia, rendang dishes can be easily spotted at either roadside stalls, cafes or restaurants as well as a famous home cooking dish for the Malay, actually non Malay too. You can enjoy the rendang dish with steamed rice, noodles, bread etc. Hmm...The rendang cooking styles, ingredients & taste may be different from state to state within Malaysia. That's the unique cultures of Malaysians
Do enjoy this cooking vlog via https://youtu.be/YUrE1B30RxI which being captured (by Sienny Yong aka SiennyLovesDrawing) from my mum's home cooking of chicken rendang during MCO to ease my craving, yeah!! It's now much easier to prepare rendang dishes with ready to cook sauces in the market. In this vlog, my mum was using the Gillies Rendang from AYA Real Food (? https://ayarealfood.com/product/gillies-rendang-120g/). The sauce ingredients are Split Gill Mushroom, Coconut Milk, Onion, Oil, Sugar, Garlic, Coconut Paste, Lemongrass, Ginger, Galangal, Dried Chili, Salt, Turmeric Leaves, Lime Leaves & Spices
Whenever you're travelling to Malaysia, do remember to taste a rendang dish during your trip
