トレーニングは「心と身体を鍛えるもの」をポリシーに、トップアスリートから一般の方まで、さまざまなフィールドでそれぞれに適した身体づくりを提案・指導している。みずからも選手としてボディビル競技に挑みつつ、骨格筋評論家「バズーカ岡田」として多くのメディアに出演。ボディメイクやトレーニングに関する知識や経験を、万人にわかりやすく、かつ心に響かせるような言葉に変換する能力に長け「魂のトレーニング伝道師」とも呼ばれている。

1980年、愛知県出身。東京都立西高等学校 卒業、日本体育大学 体育学部 武道学科 柔道専攻 卒業、日本体育大学大学院 体育科学研究科 博士前期課程 健康科学スポーツ医科学系 修了（体育科学修士）、東京大学大学院 総合文化研究科 博士後期課程 生命環境科学系 単位取得満期退学。

主な保有資格は、理学療法士、日本スポーツ協会公認アスレティックトレーナー（以下、AT）、National Strength & Conditioning Association Certified Strength & Conditioning Spe-cialist (NSCA CSCS。トレーニング指導者の国際的ライセンス)、日本トレーニング指導者認定上級トレーニング指導者、柔道四段など。

総合病院、整形外科クリニックに勤務後、2007年4月より医療従事者、トレーニング指導者、ATの養成大学に着任。2016年4月より日本体育大学 体育学部 准教授に着任し、現在に至る。2018年4月より、日本体育大学大学院 体育科学研究科と保健医療学研究科の博士前期課程で、論文指導教員を担当。研究活動としては体幹筋群と腰痛、さらに筋肥大と減量を主なテーマとしている。また関連領域に関する著書も多数。

日本オリンピック委員会 強化スタッフ（柔道）、日本オリンピック委員会 科学サポート部門員、柔道全日本男子チーム 体力強化部門長を務めており、2016年8月リオデジャネイロオリンピックでは、史上初となる柔道男子全階級メダル制覇に貢献。

厳しいトレーニングと減量から成るボディビルは、身体だけでなく心も鍛え得る道として学生指導の核に掲げており、日本体育大学バーベルクラブの顧問を務めている。自身もウエイトトレーニングの実践者として 2014年にボディビル競技に初挑戦。デビュー戦の東京オープン選手権大会70kg級で優勝。16年には日本社会人選手権大会を制し、日本選手権大会には16年、17年に連続出場 している。

骨格筋評論家として「バズーカ岡田」の異名で『ホンマでっか!?TV』（フジテレビ）を始めとしたテレビ、雑誌等多くのメディアで活躍中。『除脂肪メソッド』（ベースボール・マガジン社）『2週間で腹を割る!4分鬼筋トレ』（アチーブメント出版）『つけたいところに最速で筋肉をつける技術』（サンマーク出版）など、著書多数。累計100万部を突破している。
